Sandy Kiosk

Sandy Kiosk is the beach-shack coffee stop sitting right on the sand at Sandringham Harbour near the yacht club, and for dog walkers it is the obvious reward at the end of a foreshore loop. Outdoor tables sit a few steps from the water, the crowd skews heavily towards walkers and cyclists with dogs in tow, and the draw is the position: a quick refuel with a salty dog drying off beside you.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, which is where the seating is anyway given how small the kiosk itself is. Water bowls tend to be on hand for the regular canine trade, though on a hot summer day a backup bowl of your own is a smart move. The kiosk opens straight onto the Sandringham Harbour dog beach, so a swim before or after coffee is built into the visit; check the foreshore signage for current off-leash hours before unclipping.

The vibe

Classic kiosk fare done well: coffee, sausage rolls, milkshakes and beach views over the marina. Do not come for a long menu or a leisurely brunch service, come for a milkshake and the best-positioned table on the beach. Hours run 9am to 3pm daily, so it is a daytime stop, busiest on warm weekend days when the whole foreshore is out.

Getting there and parking

The kiosk is on the beach side off Jetty Road, Sandringham. The ticketed Sandringham beach car park sits right alongside, and it is a short walk down from Sandringham Station if you arrive by train. The paved coastal trail runs behind the kiosk for a longer on-lead leg of the walk.

Close by with the dogs

The Sandringham Harbour Dog Beach starts at the kiosk's doorstep, and the Bayside coastal path links south towards Black Rock and Beaumaris. For a sit-down cafe alternative in the suburb, Full Turn Kitchen Bar and Stevie are both on the books.
