Cypher Coffee

Cypher Coffee is a specialty cafe at 3/6 Knox Street, Sandgate, sitting right beside Sandgate Station. It opens from 5:30am Monday to Saturday and pours Bear Bones specialty coffee, which makes it the first stop of the morning for bayside dog walkers and a natural last stop before the train home. Sundays it is closed, so plan your weekend long walk accordingly.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor and footpath tables along Knox Street, where small tables and stools line the sidewalk, and water bowls are typically put out for canine customers. Keep your dog leashed at the tables, since the footpath is also the main pedestrian route to the station.

Max: if you are arriving by train with your dog, this is about as easy as it gets. Grab a table on the station side and keep the lead short while commuters pass.

The vibe

The counter runs on creative bagels, including a prosciutto, gorgonzola and green apple combination that gets mentioned often, plus muffins, smoothies and a solid coffee program. Free Wi-Fi and an early opening suit tradies and commuters, and the room has a relaxed local feel rather than a cafe-scene polish.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits next to Sandgate Station and the bus terminal, so rail is the easy option. On-street parking around Knox Street and Bowser Parade can fill at weekend peaks, though most mornings there is a spot within a block or two.

Sandgate Foreshore Park Dog Off Leash Area on First Avenue is the headline pairing, best at low to mid tide when dogs get the tidal flats to run on. Curlew Park Fenced Dog Park offers a fully fenced alternative with separate big and small dog enclosures.
