Walter Cafe

The setup. Walter sits at Regatta Point on Barrine Drive, looking straight across Lake Burley Griffin to the National Carillon. It is a polished, modern-Australian cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating, and dogs are welcome in the outdoor dining area on the balcony and patio.

Dog access. Bring your dog to the outdoor tables, not inside. The balcony and patio give a comfortable spot to settle in with the view. Staff are welcoming, but water bowls are not always out, so pack your own bowl.

Known for. The panoramic lake and Carillon outlook, and a modern menu that runs to scones, eggs benedict and prawn linguine. It leans a touch more restaurant than quick coffee stop.

Getting there. Barrine Drive, Regatta Point, Commonwealth Park. Free parking is in the Regatta Point car park, generally easy on weekends. The lakeside walking paths run right to the door.

Nearby with the dogs. Commonwealth Park sits alongside for a pre- or post-coffee stroll, and the foreshore path out front loops on toward the National Library and the city.

Best mid-morning before the brunch rush. Good for a longer sit-down when you want the view as much as the walk.
