OLLIES ESPRESSO BAR

Ollies Espresso Bar is a small specialty coffee bar at 26 Station Street in Nundah, about 50 metres from the train station. It opens from 6am and is one of the few local spots that will take dogs indoors as well as out, which makes it an easy first stop on a morning walk.

The dog setup

Well-behaved dogs are welcome both at the street seating outside and inside the cozy nook. The team, Ollie and Caitlin, greet local dogs by name, and there are one dollar pup cups so the dog gets something out of the trip too. Water is available for the outdoor tables. The inside space is compact and dogs stay off the furniture, so it suits calm dogs best, and it is worth confirming the indoor area is open on the day since a small room can get tight when busy.

The menu

Coffee is the point here. Shots come off a La Marzocco from a house blend, with rotating filter and guest roasts from names like Single O and Parallel. The cold brew series runs brown sugar, salted caramel and their Melbourne-style Mont Blanc, an iced filter coffee topped with sweet cream, nutmeg and orange zest. Food is a tight lineup of gourmet toasties and grab-and-go sandwiches plus freshly baked pastries, with the almond croissant a regular order.

Getting there and parking

Trains to Nundah station put you practically at the door, and there is decent free on-street parking along Station Street and the nearby side streets. The bar opens 6am to midday Tuesday to Sunday and closes Mondays, so it is a mornings-only venue.

Close by with the dogs

Pair the coffee with an off-leash run first: Boyd Park fenced dog park and Toombul dog park are both close, and a settled dog is exactly what the small indoor nook suits. Fuel and Co is the fallback later in the day once Ollies has closed up.
