Vitti Cafe on Gregory

Vitti Cafe on Gregory is a busy breakfast and coffee spot on the corner of Gregory and Mitchell Streets in North Ward, a short walk from The Strand. It is explicitly dog-friendly, and it has earned that reputation: staff are used to dog owners, and the alfresco corner is a popular pre or post-walk stop.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor alfresco area, with footpath tables in a breezy corner position that is good for people-watching. Indoors is for people. Keep your dog leashed at the table and bring a portable water bowl as a default, though the accommodating staff make settling in easy. It opens 6am to 2pm daily, so early Strand walkers are well served.

The vibe and the food

Breakfast is the headline: signature rosti stacks with bacon or halloumi, smashed avocado, big English-style plates and corn fritters, backed by coffee that locals often rate among the best in North Ward. The Malteser shake has a following of its own. Portions are generous and the team handles groups well; weekends get busy, so earlier is calmer.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along Gregory and Mitchell Streets and fills on weekend mornings. The cafe is walking distance from The Strand, so if you are staying or walking on the foreshore it is easy to loop in on foot with the dog.

Nearby with the dogs

The Strand promenade is minutes away for a paved seaside walk, and note that Townsville City Council keeps The Strand on-leash only. For proper off-leash time, Pallarenda Dog Beach is the designated off-leash beach a short drive up Cape Pallarenda Road.
