The Coffee Club Café - The Strand Townsville

The Coffee Club on The Strand trades on its position, looking across Cleveland Bay to Magnetic Island, and dogs are welcome in the large undercover outdoor area at the front while the indoor dining room stays people only. It is a convenient, scenic stop mid-walk rather than a destination kitchen, and it does that job well.

The dog setup

The front terrace is roomy and shaded, so it suits a longer sit better than most CBD footpaths. Staff are used to dogs stopping by and water is generally available, but on a warm Townsville morning a bowl of your own removes any doubt. Keep your dog leashed and in the outdoor zone; the interior and ordering counters are off limits.

The vibe

The menu is the familiar Coffee Club formula: all-day breakfast, eggs benedict, milkshakes and banana bread, ordered by QR code if you want to skip the counter. Doors open early, from 6:30am every day, closing at 2:30pm Monday to Wednesday and 4pm the rest of the week.

Getting there

Free street parking runs along The Strand but fills on weekends and through the dry-season tourist months. The cafe sits right on the paved promenade, so it is an easy stop partway along the foreshore walk, and early morning is the coolest, quietest window with the best of the island view.

While you're out there

The Strand parkland and foreshore path run straight past, with the dog on lead along the promenade and clear of the patrolled swimming beach. Other dog-friendly stops within a short walk include Odyssey on the Strand and Happy Place, while Pedlar Project on Flinders Street is worth the detour for its garden deck.
