The Orange Box is a casual beach kiosk sitting right on the dunes at Leighton Beach, the kind of stop where you order a coffee still dripping from the dog swim.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor, sandy seating area under the umbrellas, and staff are generally relaxed about well-behaved dogs at your feet. Keep your dog on a lead while seated. It is worth bringing your own water bowl as a backup rather than relying on the venue having one out.

Good to know. Known for coffee, smoothies, juices, ice creams and casual toasties, with a relaxed beachy atmosphere that sometimes runs to live music. It gets busy on warm weekends when the beach crowd rolls straight in off the sand.

Getting there. The cafe sits at 14 Freeman Way, North Fremantle, right by the Leighton Beach dog exercise area. Paid parking is available nearby, and the coastal shared path connects it on foot from North Fremantle or Cottesloe if you would rather walk in.

Nearby with the dogs. Leighton Beach's off-leash section is right out front for a swim before or after your coffee. The coastal path running north toward Cottesloe or south toward Fremantle makes for a good stretch of the legs either side of a meal.

When to go. Weekday mornings are quieter than the weekend beach rush. Good for a quick, low-fuss coffee stop after a beach run rather than a long sit-down meal.
