Soul Brew Cafe

Soul Brew Cafe runs all day, every day, on Australia Street, and it has quietly become one of the more reliable dog friendly breakfast calls in Newtown. The draw for dog owners is the space out the back: a covered outdoor lounge and courtyard where dogs are reported by visitors to be welcome while you work through a long brunch list.

The dog setup

Dogs settle into the covered lounge and rear courtyard, sheltered enough to be a wet weather option, and staff are widely described as friendly to both ends of the leash. As with most food premises, dogs stay out of the indoor areas under standard health regulations, so this is a case of arriving, grabbing a table out the back and settling in. The cafe opens from 7am through to 3pm, seven days a week, which makes it an easy anchor for a morning walk followed by breakfast.

The menu is the other reason people keep coming back. Thai corn fritters, soft shell crab dishes and avocado toast get regular mentions, alongside cold pressed juices for the drive home. It is a busy local room rather than a destination cafe, so weekends can mean a short wait for a courtyard table, especially late morning.
