Zubi Bar

Zubi Bar is a relaxed local cafe on Barrenjoey Road in the middle of Newport village, about 500 metres up from Newport Beach. It runs on Campos coffee and an easy-going, artistic feel, with rotating work from Northern Beaches creators on the walls, and it has become a default stop for dog owners walking between the village and the water.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the designated outdoor seating, both at the front tables and in the plant-filled garden area at the back, which is the quieter pick if you have a dog that prefers some distance from foot traffic. Keep your dog leashed while you are there, and ask staff for a water bowl if one is not already out on the ground, since they are usually provided but not always placed.

Worth knowing

The kitchen covers the brunch staples: bacon and egg rolls, avocado on toast, and ham and cheese toasties, with coffee strong enough that locals rate it among the better pours on the Northern Beaches. Weekday doors open at 5:45am, Sundays at 6:45am, with everything wrapping by 2pm, so it is a morning venue. Weekday mornings are the easiest time to get a back garden table before they fill.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits at 323C Barrenjoey Road in the Newport village centre. Street parking around Ocean Avenue is limited, and the Newport Beach car park nearby is the fallback on busy days.

Close by with the dogs

Note that dogs are prohibited on Newport Beach itself, so plan the walk around the reserves instead. Charli's Cafe on Robertson Road is another Newport cafe with dog friendly outdoor seating, and The Brightside Cafe is a few minutes north at Mona Vale, close to Rowland Reserve where dogs can swim off lead.
