Charli's Cafe

Charli's Cafe on Robertson Road is the local all-day breakfast and brunch spot in the middle of Newport, open seven days from 7am. It has a footpath setup that works well with a dog: park yourself outside after an early beach walk and settle in.

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor footpath tables, shaded by large umbrellas, with a leash required at all times. The cafe keeps water bowls out for thirsty dogs most days, though carrying a backup is never a bad idea on hot Northern Beaches mornings. Indoors is for people only.

Coffee gets repeated good mentions and staff are consistently described as pleasant. Weekday hours run 7am to 4pm, but the kitchen wraps earlier on weekends, trading 7am to 2pm, so plan a morning visit.

Getting there and parking

Robertson Road sits just off Barrenjoey Road in the centre of Newport. Street parking is available nearby but fills quickly on weekend mornings, which is exactly when the footpath tables go too. Arrive early and you will usually get both a spot and a table.

Close by with the dogs

Dogs are prohibited on Newport Beach sand itself, but Northern Beaches Council runs a 24-hour off-leash area at Dearin Reserve, an unfenced sloping grass reserve with shade trees, seating and a water station at the corner of Gladstone and Kalinya Streets, so you can bank a proper run before breakfast. The Newport down the road is the dog-friendly pick for a later drink, and The Brightside Cafe at Mona Vale is the neighbouring suburb's dog-friendly coffee option.
