CHANOYU is a Japanese-inspired cafe on Nerang Street in the middle of town, built around matcha and hand-made desserts, with an outdoor terrace set aside for pets and their owners. If you want a good iced matcha latte with the dog at your feet, this is one of the few dedicated Japanese cafes in the area that actively makes room for them.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome on the outdoor terrace, which is generally shady and comfortable. Staff are friendly and have been known to hand out a dog biscuit, though it is worth bringing your own water bowl to be sure.

Good to know. The kitchen leans into matcha and hojicha tarts, cream puffs and yuzu cheesecake, alongside savoury katsu sando (pork or chicken) and omurice. Open Monday to Saturday, roughly 7am to 2pm with the kitchen winding down around 1:30pm, and closed Sundays. Confirm current hours before a long drive.

Getting there. You will find it at 6A/54-58 Nerang Street, just off the main roads through town, with free on-site parking.

Nearby with the dogs. The Nerang riverbank is a short hop away for a stroll, and there are fenced dog parks a few minutes on if the dog needs a run after coffee.

When to go. Weekday mornings are the calmest window before the local breakfast crowd builds. Good for a relaxed sit rather than a big off-leash energy burn.
