Mordi Deli Cafe Panini Bar is a small, family-run deli on the Mordialloc strip at Shop 3, 570 Main Street, a short walk up from the beach. It is mostly a takeaway operation with a few cosy footpath seats, and those outdoor tables are where dogs are welcome. For a sandwich of this reputation, the queue tells the story before you taste anything.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the small pavement seating area on Main Street. The footpath is close to passing foot traffic, so it suits a dog that settles amid street movement rather than one that needs room to spread out. Water bowls are sometimes out front but bring your own to be safe. Inside is people only. If the tables are taken, the easiest move is a takeaway panini and coffee down to the foreshore lawns near the pier.

Worth knowing

The draw is the bread: fresh focaccia and made-to-order pressed panini, with the mortadella panini and the Mario pastrami version the signature orders. There are charcuterie boxes, good coffee, cakes and the occasional biscoff something, plus vegan options and a short drinks list with spritz and wine for a slow lunch. The venue's own hours run Wednesday to Sunday, 8am to 3pm, closed Monday and Tuesday, which matters because several listings still show a Tuesday trade that no longer exists.

Find it at 570 Main Street, Mordialloc. Street parking runs along Main Street and the side streets with time limits, and public car parks sit a short walk behind the strip. Mordialloc station is nearby for a car-free visit.

While you are out there

Mordialloc Beach and the pier are a short walk down Main Street, with dog access on the sand signposted by time and season.
