Jack the Geezer

Jack the Geezer occupies the corner shop at 99 Canterbury Road, Middle Park, a classic bayside corner cafe with yellow umbrellas out the front and one of the earliest opening times in the area. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, and its position near the Albert Park Lake circuit makes it a natural coffee stop mid-walk.

The dog setup

Dogs sit with you under the umbrellas on the footpath side, on lead and settled beside the table. The footpath is generous by inner-Melbourne standards, which helps with bigger dogs. No water station is advertised, so carry a bowl and ask staff when you arrive. With the tram and lake traffic passing, it suits dogs that stay calm around steady foot traffic.

The vibe and the menu

The kitchen leans proper cafe fare: the steak sandwich is the signature order, alongside smashed avo and a chilli scramble that regulars keep coming back for. It is a neighbourhood local rather than a scene, busy with walkers, cyclists and prams through the morning. Doors open at 5:45am on weekdays and service runs to mid afternoon, so an early lake walk followed by breakfast works year round.

Getting there and parking

You will find it on the Canterbury Road corner close to the Route 96 tram stop, with metered street parking on the surrounding blocks if you drive. From the cafe it is a short walk west to the beach side of Middle Park or south into the lake precinct.

Close by with the dogs

The Albert Park Lake loop is the obvious walk to pair with breakfast, and the Albert Park off-leash area gives the dog a proper run beforehand. For another coffee in the same patch, Horizon and Grind is also dog friendly.
