Horizon and Grind

Horizon and Grind is a popular suburban cafe inside the Metro Middle Park Shopping Centre in Brisbane's west, and the drawcard for dog owners is a genuinely welcoming outdoor area with room to spread out and a water bowl on hand.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area, which has direct access from the main carpark. A water bowl is provided and the team is relaxed about well-behaved dogs settling beside the tables. Keep the lead on; the outdoor area is shared with the general dining crowd.

Max: the outdoor area opens straight onto the carpark, so grab a table away from the traffic edge if your dog gets excited by movement.

Worth knowing

The coffee and tea get consistent praise, and the kitchen runs an affordable breakfast and lunch menu with a solid range of vegan and vegetarian options. The chilli scramble and the brekkie burger are the regulars' picks, portion sizes are generous, and there is a steak sandwich and fresh juice for the lunch crowd. Doors open at 6:30am daily, with trade finishing by mid afternoon.

Getting there and parking

Parking is the easy part: the shopping-centre carpark is extensive and free, and the cafe is an easy walk from the surrounding residential streets of Middle Park.

Close by with the dogs

For an off-lead run before or after coffee, the Wolston Creek Bushland Reserve Fenced Dog Park in Riverhills and the Tigris Street Park Fenced Dog Park in Westlake are both a short drive away. For another coffee stop with dogs, Piggy Back Cafe in Jindalee is close by too.
