Colour dot coffee

Colour Dot Coffee is a specialty coffee cafe at 140 Glebe Road, Merewether, on the busy strip between the suburb and The Junction. It is a compact, lively spot built around the house-roasted Colour Dot label, and it has quickly become a local morning fixture. Older listings may still show the site's previous trading name, so do not be thrown if you see both names attached to the address.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the kerbside and footpath tables out front on Glebe Road; the small indoor space is people only. Water bowls are commonly put out for passing dogs along this stretch, though carrying your own is the safe play. Glebe Road carries steady foot traffic, so keep the lead short and your dog settled at your feet.

The menu

The coffee is roasted under the house label and brewed with a focus on flavour and body, and the matcha program is one of the best regarded in Newcastle. Food is a tight list of loaded toasties, the popular breaky burrito and breaky burger, avocado toast with goat's feta, smoothies and vegan-friendly options. It trades early, from 6am weekdays and 7am weekends until about 1:30pm, so it is a morning stop rather than a lunch one.

Getting there and parking

Free street parking runs along Glebe Road and the side streets, busiest in the morning peak. Merewether Beach and Dixon Park are both a few minutes away, which makes this an easy coffee stop on a coastal walk circuit.

Close by with the dogs

Dogs are prohibited on Merewether Beach itself, but Merewether Dog Off-Leash Area covers the grassed reserve time slots, and Newcastle Dogs Beach near the harbour is the all-day off-lead sand option. The Bathers Way coastal path links it all on a lead. Fellow Merewether stops Convoy Commune and Blue Door Kiosk sit close by.
