Bohäus Cafe(Matraville)

Bohäus Cafe operated on Bunnerong Road in the middle of Matraville, a neighbourhood coffee spot with outdoor and footpath tables set up for dogs and their owners. Note that the Matraville store appears to have ceased trading in mid-2026: its own page now returns an error and the Bohäus website lists only the Alexandria, Coogee and Woolloomooloo locations, so check before you walk over.

The dog setup

When it was trading, dogs were welcome at the outdoor, footpath and courtyard tables, while indoor seating was humans only, standard for a food-registered NSW cafe. There was no fee and no booking, just keep your dog leashed and close to the table so the footpath stayed clear, and staff would usually bring a water bowl out on request.

Worth knowing

It was known for artisan coffee and flat whites, toasted sandwiches, hot dogs and a rotating tray of baked goods, with Portuguese tarts a recurring favourite. Weekend mornings filled the footpath tables with locals and their dogs; weekday mornings were the relaxed sit.

Pepsi: a proper dog-walk stop while it lasted, coffee and a baby chino with the dog tied up at your feet. If it has genuinely closed, the Eastern Suburbs Bohäus stores run the same welcome.

Getting there

The cafe sat on Bunnerong Road, an easy trip from Maroubra, Chifley or Botany, with street parking along Bunnerong Road and the side streets, some of it timed, and local bus routes stopping close by.

Close by with the dogs
