Oba Cafe

Oba Cafe on Bunnerong Road brings a Brazilian streak to Matraville's brunch scene, and it is one of the more relaxed dog policies in the eastern suburbs: dogs are welcomed indoors as well as at the outdoor tables. That indoor option matters on a cold or wet morning, when most cafes in the area leave you on the footpath.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome inside the dining area and at the outdoor seating, on a leash and settled beside your seat. Water bowls are often put out without needing to ask. The cafe appears on Sydney dog-friendly roundups, and the general tone is warm and neighbourhood-casual rather than precious about it.

The food

The menu mixes Australian brunch with Brazilian comfort food: pao de queijo cheese bread, mortadella sandwiches and an Oba breakfast on the savoury side, with brigadeiros, dulce de leche lattes and a Belgian-style mocha among the sweet draws. Hours run 6am to 1pm Tuesday to Thursday, 6am to 2pm Friday and 7am to 2pm weekends, closed Mondays. One practical note: the cafe ended its Uber Eats delivery listing in April 2025 and recent listings suggest checking its current opening status before a long trip.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is at 522 Bunnerong Road, the main strip through Matraville. Free street parking is available along Bunnerong Road and the surrounding residential streets, with time limits to watch, and buses run along the road if you are walking the dog from further out.

Close by with the dogs

Heffron Park is minutes away for a long on-leash walk on its wide shared paths; it is not an off-leash park under Randwick Council rules. For off-lead time, Firmstone Reserve's fenced dog park in Pagewood is the closest fully fenced option on PawScapes. Bohaus Cafe and Green Olive Cafe in Little Bay are the nearby listings for a second stop.
