Bulli

Bulli is the casual cafe and pizza bar in the Marcoola shops, a short walk from the beach entry off David Low Way, and it is one of the more reliably dog-friendly tables on this stretch of the Sunshine Coast. It runs breakfast and lunch from 7am, pushes through to 8pm on pizza nights from Wednesday to Saturday, and closes Mondays and Sunday afternoons at 2pm.

Dogs are welcome on leads at the outdoor and patio tables, and they are not permitted inside the indoor dining area, so aim for the alfresco side. There is usually room to settle a dog beside the table without blocking the walkway, and beach walkers coming up from the sand with a dog on lead are a normal part of the morning traffic here. Bring your own water bowl to be safe.

The kitchen covers breakfast through to evening pizza: ham and cheese croissants and quiche in the cabinet, a brioche burger and chilli prawn pizza among the favourites, plus banana bread and coconut bread with lemon curd for morning tea. It is fully licensed, so a beer with the pizza works too. The crowd is locals and holidaymakers in boardshorts rather than anything fussy.

Max: order the pizza for dinner on a Wednesday, tie the lead to the chair on the patio side, and walk the dog down to the beach while it cooks.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits in the Marcoola shop strip off David Low Way, with street parking along the road and the side streets nearby. It is an easy walk from the beach boardwalk and the surrounding holiday accommodation, so most dog visitors arrive on foot rather than by car.

While you're out there

Marcoola Beach sits just across the road, and council allows off-leash dogs on the sand between beach accesses 97 and 98 in the 5am to 8am and 5pm to 8pm windows, with the rest of the beach on-leash or signed. The fully fenced Marcoola Fenced Dog Park is minutes away for an all-hours run, and the Mudjimba off-leash beach is a short drive north.
