Hungry Sailor Fish & Chips Marcoola

Hungry Sailor Fish & Chips is a well-regarded casual seafood and burger shop at Unit 5/970 David Low Way, Marcoola, a short walk from the beach and a handy grab-a-feed stop with the dog in tow. Formerly known as The Drunken Sailor, it is open daily from 11am to 8pm and has built a strong local following on the Sunshine Coast.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, which you reach easily along the David Low Way footpath. It is order-at-the-counter, so one of you can queue while the other waits outside with the dog in the breezy casual seating. The shop has a local reputation for being very accommodating to dogs and their owners. Bring your own water bowl; staff are relaxed about dogs but there is nothing set up to count on.

The food

The kitchen is known for light, crispy batter rather than anything heavy or greasy, with potato scallops a standout and burgers a close second. The seafood list runs to snapper, barramundi, calamari, crumbed fish and grilled garlic prawns, so there is plenty beyond the standard pack. Portions are generous enough to share at an outdoor table.

Getting there and parking

The shop sits on David Low Way, the main strip through Marcoola, with free off-street parking plus street parking out front. It is an easy walk from the beachside accommodation streets around Marcoola, which makes it a natural dinner stop on foot.

Close by with the dogs

The Marcoola Fenced Dog Park is nearby for a proper run before you order, and the beach and coastal walking paths are close for an on-lead stroll either side of dinner; check the council signage for the on-leash and off-leash sections along the coast.
