Cafe Bones

Cafe Bones sits inside Hawthorne Canal Reserve off Darley Road, and it presents itself plainly as a destination for people and their dogs: food and beverages for both, the Pupaccino dog drink, and treats at the counter. It is one of Sydney's longest-running dog-first cafes, and the location does the work: the cafe is planted inside a park that dog owners already use.

The dog setup

This is a venue-stated setup rather than a reported one. Dogs are catered for directly, with the Pupaccino on the menu alongside dog treats, and the cafe's whole model is built around the park crowd. Seating is outdoors in the reserve, hours run 8am to 2pm weekdays and 8am to 5pm on weekends, and the later weekend close fits the park's rhythm. Banana bread and coffee head the human menu, but most visitors are here for the dog-first format.

Worth knowing

Hawthorne Canal Reserve has its own dog arrangements, so check the reserve's off-leash signage for where your dog can run versus where the cafe seating sits. The weekday 2pm close is the main constraint: late-afternoon park visits will need a different coffee plan. Parking around Darley Road is street-only and tight on weekend mornings, and the canal path draws cyclists, so settle your dog away from the shared path. Because the cafe trades inside a public reserve, the crowd is a mix of regular dog walkers and weekend families, and the busiest stretch runs from mid morning on Saturdays. Dogs coming straight from an off-leash run are part of the room's normal traffic here, which is the whole reason the venue works.
