The Pan & Stone

The Pan & Stone is a smokehouse cafe attached to the Botanica Lane nursery at 29 Marshall Road in Kirrawee, where the dining tables sit among the plants rather than beside a road. The kitchen is built around smoked meats, with the smoked beef brisket the dish regulars come back for, and the nursery setting doubles as a calm, green spot to bring a dog.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating beside the nursery, which is the cafe's main setting anyway, so nobody is tucked into a token corner table. The team has a habit of handing out treats for canine customers, and the plant-lined surrounds give a settled dog plenty to look at. Inside the cafe and kitchen area is for people only, and it is worth bringing your own water bowl to be sure.

Worth knowing

Alongside the brisket there is a full breakfast and lunch menu, cold pressed juices, gluten-free options and high teas, and the cafe also runs catering and functions. Large tables make it workable for a group, and there is a kids play area if the family is mixed. Hours run 6:30am to 3pm weekdays, with the kitchen closing at 2pm Monday to Friday and coffee and cakes served to the end; weekends are shorter, 7am to 2pm Saturday and 8am to 12pm Sunday.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits in the commercial pocket of Kirrawee, with street parking generally available on Marshall Road and the surrounding streets. It is a short drive from Sutherland and the Gymea side of the shire.

Close by with the dogs

For a run before breakfast, Helena Street Park Fenced Dog Park is Kirrawee's own fully fenced option. The Brick Pit Espresso and Hidden Grounds Cafe cover the suburb's other coffee stops, and the Woronora River Bridge Walk is a short drive for a leashed hour by the water.
