Helena Street Park Fenced Dog Park

Helena Street Park is a fully fenced off-leash dog park run by Sutherland Shire Council in a quiet cul-de-sac off Helena Street, Kirrawee. The layout is the reason people come back: separate fenced enclosures for large and small dogs rather than one shared paddock.

The dog setup

The whole area is fenced with double-gated entry, so dogs can be off-lead only once you are inside the enclosure. There are separate large-dog and small-dog sections, tree shade, a gazebo and seating for owners, a walking path, simple dog play equipment, and water on site with bag-and-bin stations for clean-up.

Council asks that dogs stay on lead through the gates and under effective control inside, and restricted breeds or dogs declared dangerous or menacing are not permitted. Because the reserve backs onto homes, keep the barking down, particularly after 7pm.

There is no separate agility course beyond the simple play equipment, and no dedicated small-dog parking worries: the cul-de-sac setting keeps through traffic to almost nothing, which makes gate-to-gate transfers calm even for excitable dogs.

Pepsi: the small-dog section is properly separate, not a token corner, so a quiet dog can actually relax here. Arrive after work rather than weekend morning if your dog prefers space, because the mornings fill with regulars.

Worth knowing

The park can hold water and turn muddy after heavy rain, so expect a dirty dog if you visit in the middle of a wet spell. Gates are locked overnight, between roughly 10:30pm and 4:30am, outside the council's stated operating hours.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is reached via the local streets off the Princes Highway, tucked behind the Kirrawee shopping area. There is street parking on Helena Street and the surrounding residential roads, and it tightens up on weekend mornings. Kirrawee station is within walking distance for a car-free visit.

Close by with the dogs

Brick Pit Espresso on Flora Street is the closest decent coffee after a session, and Apex Espresso Bar in Gymea and Left Bower toward Sutherland give you two more options within a few minutes' drive.
