Left Bower

Left Bower is a small, retro-styled cafe directly across from Sutherland railway station, and dogs are welcome in the outdoor footpath and alfresco seating.

Dog access. Dogs are welcome on the footpath and outdoor tables. Indoor seating is people-only, so plan on alfresco if you have a dog with you. Staff put out water bowls, but bring your own bowl as backup. Keep dogs leashed and off the furniture.

Known for. A small breakfast and lunch menu with strong coffee, in a cosy 1980s-retro fitout. It has a loyal local following for being genuinely welcoming to dogs, not just tolerant of them.

Getting there. Left Bower sits at Shop 3, 45 Adelong Street, Sutherland, right opposite Sutherland station, so it is an easy stop if you are walking in on the train. Free off-street parking is available nearby for anyone driving.

Nearby with the dogs. Helena Street Fenced Dog Park in Kirrawee is a short drive away and has separate areas for large, small and nervous dogs. Greenhills Beach at Kurnell allows off-leash swimming outside the middle of the day, 4pm to 10am in daylight saving and 3pm to 10am the rest of the year, so check the hours before you go.

When to go: weekday mornings are quieter for grabbing an outdoor table with a dog in tow. Good for a coffee stop on the way to or from Sutherland station.
