Left Bower

Left Bower is a small, retro-styled cafe directly across from Sutherland railway station, and it has quietly become one of the Sutherland Shire's most genuine dog-friendly addresses. This is not a cafe that merely tolerates dogs: there is a photo wall dedicated to regular canine customers, natural dog treats behind the counter, and an alfresco section where the morning regulars are as likely to be holding leads as coffee cups.

The dog treats are worth asking after; the kangaroo sticks have a following.

The kitchen keeps a short breakfast and lunch list done well: bacon and egg rolls, steak sandwiches, french toast and a house-made relish that regulars mention, with dietary-friendly options across the menu. Doors open at 5am on weekdays and 6am weekends, closing at 2pm, and the 1980s-retro fitout gives it more character than its strip-shopfront exterior suggests. Occasional Bower Nights events run after hours.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits at Shop 3, 45 Adelong Street, Sutherland, opposite the station, so arriving by train is genuinely easy. For drivers there is free off-street parking nearby plus street parking on Adelong and the surrounding blocks.

Close by with the dogs

The fenced Helena Street Park dog park in Kirrawee is a short drive with separate areas for large and small dogs. Back in Sutherland, Woronora Tea Rooms is the suburb's other dog-friendly cafe and the Royal Hotel covers a pub lunch.
