LUME CAFE

Lume Cafe is a small, community-minded local cafe at 80 Bulwer Street in Highgate, right outside the Highgate Woolworths, with dog-friendly alfresco seating along the street front. It has featured in Urban List's roundup of dog-friendly Perth cafes, and it rebuilt an existing following after taking over the spot previously known as Artem Cafe.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor alfresco area directly in front of the cafe. Access is flat and easy from both the street and the adjacent carpark, which suits older or smaller dogs. Water bowls are often around the Highgate shopping precinct, but bring your own to be safe. Keep dogs leashed, as the footpath fronts a busy supermarket entrance.

Worth knowing

The compact kitchen leans on bagels and toasties: the avo and feta bagel and cajun chicken bagel are popular picks, with gluten-free options available. Drinks cover specialty coffee, alternative milks, fresh smoothies and seasonal specials like strawberry matcha, and the cabinet holds treats such as flourless berry muffins, brownies and traditional oreshki. It is a small, welcoming room rather than a big brunch operation, and it runs community events including a monthly book club. Hours are Monday to Saturday from 7am to 2pm, closed Sunday.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits in the Highgate shopping strip on Bulwer Street, just east of the Perth CBD. Parking is easy in the adjacent Woolworths Highgate carpark, handy for a quick stop or a post-grocery coffee, though check signage for time limits.

Close by with the dogs

The Jack Marks Reserve fenced dog park is in Highgate itself, and Ozone Reserve fenced dog park is a short drive east.
