Kapara Cafe

Kapara Cafe is an Israeli street food cafe in the courtyard of the DADAA building at 92 Adelaide Street, Fremantle. It is built around green vegan falafel, organic Colombian coffee and a largely vegetarian kitchen, and the sheltered courtyard behind the building is where dogs are welcome, making it one of the more characterful dog friendly brunch stops in Freo.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor courtyard, the main dog friendly area, with a little footpath seating on Adelaide Street as well. One quirk to remember: dogs are welcome every day except Thursdays, so plan the visit around that. Water bowls are often available in the courtyard, though carrying your own is still smart. Dogs are not taken inside the building.

The menu and the vibe

The famous green falafel comes in pita or plated with pickles and sauces, and the menu stretches across shawarma, loaded bagels, bourekahs, pies and raw treats, with baklava and halva for dessert. The coffee is organic Colombian roasted by Two Cracks in Cowaramup. The courtyard is tucked off the street, calm in the middle of a working art space, and reviewers rate the friendly service and the falafel above everything. Hours run 7:30am to 2:30pm Monday to Friday, closed on public holidays, so it is a weekday break stop rather than a weekend one.

Getting there and parking

The address is 92 Adelaide Street, a short walk from Fremantle station. Metered street parking is available on Adelaide Street and the surrounding blocks. A weekday late morning is the calmest time for a courtyard table with room for a lead.

Make a day of it

South Beach Dog Off Leash Area is a short drive south for an off-lead swim, and Leighton Beach Dog Exercise Area sits up the coast. The Esplanade Reserve is walkable for an early run, off-lead from 5am to 8am under City of Fremantle rules. The Bistrot Cafe Freo is another courtyard option nearby.
