Nearby with the dogs. Kings Square is a short walk for paved open space, the Esplanade Reserve is a stroll toward the water for a green run, and the surrounding South Terrace strip has other dog-friendly outdoor tables.

When to go. Afternoons and warm evenings are the natural time for a waffle stop. Weekends get busy in the piazza, so aim for an undercover table with room to settle the lead out of the walkway.
