Fat froth

Fat Froth is a small espresso cafe tucked into the historic Atwell Arcade off Cantonment Street, known for smooth coffee and good toasties. The arcade setting makes it a quiet, shaded spot to pause with a dog, off the main-street noise.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor arcade seating, which is shaded and quieter than the street. The cafe itself is tiny, so the arcade tables are the dog zone. Staff are friendly and generally happy for a water bowl to go down, though carrying your own is still smart.

Good to know. The coffee gets strong marks, and there are quality toasties, fresh snacks and cakes. Hours run weekday mornings to early afternoon, so it suits a morning-walk stop rather than an evening one.

Getting there. Find it at Shop 9, 3 Cantonment Street, in the Atwell Arcade. Street parking on Cantonment Street and side streets is paid, and the venue is very close to Fremantle station.

Nearby with the dogs. The Fremantle Markets are about five minutes on foot (dogs to the outer sections), the Esplanade Reserve is a seven to ten minute walk for a green run, and South Beach off-leash area is a short drive for a swim.

When to go. A weekday morning is the calmest in the arcade. It is closed weekends, so plan a weekday stop, and aim mid-morning to land a shaded arcade table with room for the lead.
