Freshwater Community Cafe & Op Shop

Freshwater Community Cafe & Op Shop is a volunteer-run cafe and second-hand shop on the grounds of the Anglican Parish of Freshwater at 43 Park Road, Deception Bay. It is a neighbourhood stop rather than a destination cafe, and it opens on Wednesdays only, so plan the visit around that.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating on the church grounds, which is a casual, community-welcoming setting. The building is a combined cafe and op shop space, so keep your dog at the outdoor tables rather than inside. Water bowls are not a given, so bring your own.

Worth knowing

The cafe runs Wednesdays from about 9am to 1pm, with the op shop open alongside until around 2pm. It is budget priced and volunteer staffed: barista coffee, tea, toasties, muffins and a bacon, egg and cheese Turkish roll, plus a paid-forward coffee system that buys a drink for someone doing it tough. The op shop shelves carry clothing, books, dishware and toys. Hours come from the parish's own page, and it is worth checking there before driving over, since community cafes shift their days.

Getting there and parking

Park Road is a quiet residential street back from the foreshore. Free parking sits in the church lot and on the surrounding streets.

Close by with the dogs

Wednesday morning pairs neatly with Deception Bay Dog Beach, where the foreshore sand between Wallin Avenue and Joseph Crescent runs off-leash before 8am and after 4pm daily, best at low tide.
