The Old Storehouse

The Old Storehouse occupies a country-cottage corner of Dayboro's main drag on Williams Street, and the verandah is the point. The kitchen does a proper country breakfast: eggs benedict, bruschetta, cold pressed juice, and a scone and cake cabinet that draws its own traffic. Gluten free options are on the menu, which matters for mixed groups in a small-town cafe. Hours shift through the week: 7am to 1pm Monday and Tuesday, 6am to 2pm Wednesday to Friday, then 7am to 2pm on weekends, so early risers get the verandah first on weekdays and the 6am opens suit riders and walkers passing through from Brisbane.

The dog setup

The covered verandah keeps the tables usable through a Dayboro downpour, and the garden courtyard gives dogs space away from the footpath. As the dog welcome comes from visitor reporting rather than the venue's own policy text, check the verandah is seating if you are arriving with a large dog at the weekend peak, when Dayboro's cafes fill with day-trippers out of the city. The quiet Monday and Tuesday mornings are the easiest dog sessions of the week.

Make a day of it

Dayboro works well as a full morning out. Mervyn Kenman Park's fenced dog park gives an off-lead run before breakfast, and Silverwood Cafe is the second village option for a rotation day.
