Dayboro Bakery

Dayboro Bakery sits at 32 Williams Street in the middle of town, and it is the sort of country bakery you plan a hinterland drive around. Dogs are welcome on the covered front veranda, which looks over the park across the road, so you can settle into the shade with a pie without ever leaving the dog in the car.

The dog setup

Dogs join you on the outdoor veranda seating only, not inside the serving area, which is standard for a food premises. The veranda is covered, reached by a small set of steps, with room to settle a dog beside the table off to one side of foot traffic. Staff will often bring a water bowl out, but bring your own to be sure on a warm day. It opens daily from 5am to 5pm, so early travellers are covered.

Worth knowing

The draw is the baking: steak pies, lamb and rosemary, sausage rolls, danish pastries, lamingtons, apple pie, custard tarts and a vanilla slice worth the drive, plus fresh sourdough. Portions are large and prices are fair, which is why the queue keeps moving. Weekend mornings are the busiest window, and the veranda tables fill early.

Getting there and parking

Find it on Williams Street, Dayboro's single main drag about 45 minutes north-west of Brisbane through the Samford Valley. Street parking runs along the main street and the side roads, and it is easy outside the weekend peak. The town is compact: park once and walk, with the dog park just a couple of minutes away by car.

Make a day of it

Bookend the visit with the Mervyn Kenman Park Fenced Dog Park, which has dual large and small enclosures, agility gear and a water tap. Silverwood Cafe is the other dog-friendly coffee stop in town, and The Dayboro Drop covers lunch or dinner.
