Where dogs go. The Ripple & Swirl sits on the Esplanade at Christies Beach, directly opposite the sand. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables on the footpath and patio, and this one leans genuinely dog-friendly rather than just tolerating them.

The setup. Water bowls are usually on hand and treats often turn up too, which makes it a comfortable stop mid-walk. The outdoor area is planted out and gets plenty of passing dogs, so a sociable dog will be right at home. Indoor seating stays people-only.

Known for. Big, filling breakfasts, the bacon and egg rolls in particular, plus burgers and the ocean view across the road. Friendly service and a relaxed local feel round it out.

Getting there. Street parking along the Esplanade, which fills on warm weekends. The beachfront path runs past the door, so it slots neatly into a walk-and-coffee route.

Best before the mid-morning weekend rush. Check the council signs across the road for current on-leash and off-leash times.
