O'Sullivan Beach is a sandy, boat-ramp-side stretch south of Adelaide that allows dogs off-leash year-round, with an easy run along the sand toward Christies Beach.
The rules. Dogs are permitted off-leash at all times on the beach here, provided they stay under effective control and return on command. Leash up in the car park and on the boat ramp structure itself, and watch for signage protecting Hooded Plovers in nesting zones, dogs are excluded from those patches. Confirm current council rules on-site, as signage can change seasonally.
The water and terrain. Expect a mix of sandy patches and rockier coastline, with the widest, most walkable stretch of sand exposed at low tide. At high tide the usable beach narrows, particularly toward the southern end, so check tide times before a big-run visit. Water quality near the boat ramp can vary given the proximity to stormwater outlets, so it's not the spot for a long swim if you're fussy about that.
What's there. Free parking runs along Marine Drive and near the boat ramp, though the ramp car park fills fast with trailers on weekends. There are public toilets near the boat ramp, and a dog-friendly kiosk, The Screaming Seagull, sits right on the beachfront for a coffee stop. Waste bags and bins are provided along the top walking path.
Getting there. It's roughly 30-40 minutes south of the Adelaide CBD via the Southern Expressway, turning off toward the coast. If you're relying on public transport, the nearest train station is Noarlunga Centre, from where you'll need a bus or taxi to reach the beach.

Nearby with the dogs. The Screaming Seagull kiosk right at the boat ramp welcomes dogs at its outdoor tables. Further along the coast toward Port Noarlunga and Christies Beach there are more dog-friendly cafes and pet-friendly holiday rentals if you're making a weekend of it.
Go early on a weekday morning if you want the beach to yourself, and time your visit around low tide for the widest stretch of sand. It's a solid pick for dogs that want to run rather than a quiet, secluded walk.
