Vagabond is a plant-based cafe in the Habitat precinct, in Byron's Arts and Industrial Estate just out of the town centre. The draw for dog owners is the open-air setting: an outdoor courtyard and green spaces where dogs are an easy fit, away from the main-street crowds.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating in front of the cafe and in the surrounding Habitat courtyard, on lead. Indoor seating is for people only, as standard. Water bowls are often out, and it is a regular spot for locals walking their dogs, so the vibe is relaxed. The courtyard is roomy, which suits a longer, calmer sit than a footpath table in town.

Good to know. It is known for wholesome plant-based breakfast and brunch and well-rated coffee, with the bonus of lifestyle shops and galleries to wander around the precinct.

Getting there. It is at 1 Porter Street, inside the Habitat complex. There is ample street parking on Porter Street and around the industrial estate, which is far easier than parking in the town centre.

Nearby with the dogs. The estate's quiet lanes make for an easy leashed wander, and Belongil Beach South dog exercise area is a short drive away for off-lead time.

Come for a calm courtyard table and easy parking, mid-morning or early afternoon.
