Paddock Bakery is the Burleigh Heads bakery that outgrew its own hype and kept the quality anyway. It opens at 6am sharp and the reason becomes obvious fast: the crème brûlée doughnut has national attention, the sausage roll sells steadily all morning, and the almond croissants go early. By mid afternoon at 3pm it closes, so plan your visit with that rhythm in mind.

The venue states dogs are always welcome on a lead, and the setup backs that up: a leafy garden out the back plus rooftop seating, with the indoor rooms, the Cottage, the Loft and the Barn, reserved for humans. Water bowls and dog treats are commonly offered, so well behaved dogs are part of the furniture here. The garden is the pick with a dog in tow, because there is room to settle without blocking the path.

Order at the counter and grab a number: acai bowls, the Benny Bagel with salmon and a flat white is the reliable morning combination. Expect a queue on weekends, and expect it to move quickly.

The vibe

It is a converted weatherboard setting with a garden that fills with locals, prams and dogs, and somehow the whole thing stays relaxed rather than chaotic. The coffee holds its own against any in Burleigh Heads, and the pastry case makes the wait worth it even before your order lands.

You will find it at 20 Hibiscus Haven, a street back from the Burleigh Heads bustle, with street parking in the surrounding blocks. It is walkable from the beachside end of town if you want to earn the pastry first.
