Brighton Soul is a busy Church Street brunch cafe whose pull for dog owners is the small courtyard out the back, a sunny, tucked-away spot to sit with your dog away from the footpath traffic.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the rear courtyard and at the front seating, not indoors. Staff are accommodating, but bring your own water bowl to be safe. The courtyard is compact, so keep your dog close to the table and out of the way of staff moving through.

Good to know. Known for solid coffee and a brunch menu that runs to prawn tacos, scrambled eggs and an iced matcha. It is a popular Church Street spot and fills up on weekend mornings, so the courtyard goes early.

Getting there. 129 Church Street, Brighton. Street parking on Church Street and the side streets, busy at peak. Middle Brighton Station is nearby.

Nearby with the dogs. Church Street's shops are an easy on-leash stroll, and Brighton Beach is a short drive or walk for a run on the sand, subject to the council's seasonal off-leash windows.
