North Point Brighton

North Point sits right on the North Road foreshore opposite Brighton Beach, with unobstructed views over Port Phillip Bay and the Melbourne skyline beyond. It is the coffee-and-eggs end of a morning on the sand: leashed dogs are welcome in the big undercover outdoor seating while you work through an all-day breakfast menu.

Dogs are welcome in the spacious outdoor and undercover street-side seating, not inside. Staff are accommodating and water bowls are usually on hand, though carrying your own saves the ask on busy mornings. Keep your dog close to the table and clear of the service path, because the foreshore foot traffic past the tables is constant.

Max: this one is all about timing. Weekend mornings fill with locals and the foreshore car park fills with them, so an early start earns your dog a calmer deck and you a spot with the view.

The vibe

The kitchen runs all-day breakfast and brunch with dishes that have their own following, including chilli scrambled eggs, shakshuka and a well-travelled steak sandwich, plus seafood plates for later in the day. It gets busy with locals on weekends and no bookings are taken on Sundays, so walk-ins queue. On a weekday it is a much slower, salt-air kind of room.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is at 2B North Road, Brighton. Paid parking applies in the North Road foreshore car park under Bayside council rules, with limited free street parking nearby that fills early on weekends; side streets further back from the water are the fallback. Brighton Beach Station is a short walk if you arrive by train.

Close by with the dogs

The sand is across the road, and the seasonal off-leash stretches at Brighton Beach and Sandown Street Beach are a walk along the shore. Mind the summer time windows before you unclip the lead. If North Point's deck is packed, Merrymen up at Hampton is the usual local alternative.
