William Street Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

William Street Reserve at 80 William Street in Brighton runs a fenced dog off-leash area at the southern end of the reserve, set up by Bayside Council as one of its secure off-leash trials. The enclosure sits beside a full-size sports oval, with a playground, pavilion and toilets on hand, so the reserve handles the whole household in one stop.

The dog setup

The off-leash area is fully fenced with a single-gate entry, granitic sand underfoot, bag dispensers and drinking water on tap. Off-leash applies only inside the fence; the adjacent sports oval stays on-leash and is out of bounds while organised sport is on. Standard Bayside rules apply: keep your dog under effective control, pick up droppings straight away, and discourage digging so the surface stays safe. Because the enclosure runs as a council trial, check the signage on the day, as the configuration can change.

The vibe

The enclosure is compact rather than sprawling, which keeps play easy to watch. Council runs a winter lighting program on Friday evenings, roughly 5pm to 8pm, so dark-afternoon runs are possible, and weekend mornings draw the regulars. The reserve sits at the corner of William and Halifax streets, with street parking on both. Middle Brighton Station is a short walk away, and the surrounding residential streets make it an easy walk for locals. Parking tightens during weekend sport, so arrive early if you are timing a visit around a game.
