Gather sits inside Wilson Botanic Park in Berwick, on a rise looking over the lake, and it works as a natural mid-walk pit stop rather than a destination cafe on its own. Dogs are welcome in the garden seating, which makes it a favourite with people already leading a dog around the park.

The dog setup

Dogs join you in the outdoor and garden seating around the cafe; the indoor food-service area is off limits. There is plenty of room outside, water bowls are usually provided, and the lead stays on, here and throughout the park. The tables are spaced enough that a settled dog is no drama even when the terrace is busy.

The setting is the draw: lake and garden views from the table, with a varied breakfast and lunch menu that includes vegetarian and vegan options. Croissants, chai and smoothies get steady mentions, and staff come across as kind even when flat out. Fair warning: service can run slow at peak, and hours have been known to vary, so check their socials before a special trip. Doors open at 7am every day, with a 3:30pm close.

The address is 668 Princes Highway, inside Wilson Botanic Park. Ample parking sits within the park, busier on weekends, and you follow the paths up from the main car park to the cafe. The paths are pram and dog friendly.

The park itself is the day out: walking trails, ponds and gardens are right there, with dog-waste bags at the entrances.
