Pepsi says: The creek was the best part of my spring visit. I got to swim and explore along the water, and the blossom trees were popping everywhere. There was so much room to run that I barely knew where to start.
Max says: I spotted the art show set up right in the off-lead area and went straight over to have a look. The market crowds were interesting too, but I had to stay on lead near those bits.

Akoonah Park Dog Off Leash Area in Berwick is creek-side parkland with dedicated open zones for big fetch runs, separated from the showgrounds by the local caravan park. The single defining reason to go is the combination of wide off-lead space and creek access for dogs that love to swim and explore nature.
What's there. Parkland set along a creek, with spring blossom trees flowering in September. The off-lead zone is well labelled and includes areas designed specifically for long fetches. The broader Akoonah Park reserve hosts markets and events, and the off-lead area itself can host activities too: during a September visit, an art show was set up right in the middle of the off-lead zone, and dogs were welcome to wander through.
The rules. Off-lead in the designated zones. On market days, dogs are advised on a short lead in the market areas but remain welcome and popular. Most dogs enjoy the attention and vibrancy of the market atmosphere.
Getting there. The off-lead area sits beyond the caravan park that separates it from the showgrounds. It is well signed, so follow the dedicated off-lead signage rather than heading straight for the showgrounds precinct.
Watch-outs. Fencing is not solid and the road entrance is not far away. Good recall is essential before letting your dog run. This is not a fully enclosed park.

When to go. Spring delivers the blossom trees and comfortable creek-side temperatures. Market days suit social dogs that enjoy crowds and attention. Avoid peak event times if your dog needs quiet, open running space, and skip it entirely if recall is still a work in progress given the road proximity.
