Middleton Beach Dog Beach

Middleton Beach Dog Beach is the designated off-leash zone at the southern end of Middleton Beach in Seppings, running from the Ellen Cove Jetty to the southern walking track off the Surfers Beach car park. It gives dogs a wide, open stretch of clean sand and calm water just minutes from the Albany city centre, and the area is open around the clock.

The dog setup

Off-leash swimming and running is allowed only inside the marked zone. The moment you step onto surrounding paths, boardwalks or public parks, the leash goes back on, and dogs are strictly excluded from the playgrounds, the basketball courts and the sand directly in front of the BIG4 Middleton Beach Holiday Park. Pick up after your dog every time.

Horses share the beach south of Griffith Street, mainly in blocks between dawn and 9am, from 9am to 11am and from 1pm to 3pm, so keep your dog under control and give them a wide berth if you meet one.

Worth knowing

The southern end is the quieter face of Middleton Beach, with the surf and wind picking up on exposed days while the water near the jetty stays calmer for swimming. Early mornings suit a solid run before the beach walkers arrive; the zone stays legal at all hours, which makes it a reliable sunset stop too.

Getting there and parking

Head to the southern end of Middleton Beach Road and use the Surfers Beach car park, then follow the walking track onto the sand. The drive from central Albany takes only a few minutes, and the Ellen Cove jetty and boardwalk sit at the northern boundary of the zone.

While you're out there

The Surfing Bean on the beachfront is the natural coffee stop after a swim, and Emu Point Cafe is a short drive around the headland for a sit-down breakfast with water views. Staying over, BIG4 Middleton Beach Holiday Park puts you right at the northern end of the beach.
