The designated off-leash dog zone sits at the southern end of Middleton Beach in Seppings, running between the Ellen Cove Jetty and the southern walking track from the Surfers Beach Car Park. The drawcard is simple: a wide, open stretch of clean sand and calm ocean water where dogs can run and swim freely, minutes from Albany's city centre.

The rules. Dogs may be off-leash only within the designated zone, from Ellen Cove Jetty south to the Surfers Beach access point. The moment you step onto surrounding paths, boardwalks, or public parks, your dog must be back on the leash. Dogs are strictly prohibited on the playgrounds, basketball courts, and on the sand directly in front of the BIG4 Middleton Beach Holiday Park. Pick up after your dog, every time. Horses share the beach from Griffith Street south, primarily between dawn and 9am, 9-11am, and 1-3pm, so be aware of those windows.

What's there. Free parking at Surfers Beach Car Park, which sits right at the southern access point. Pet water fountains are provided, public toilets are nearby, and beach access from the car park is flat and easy.

Getting there. A few minutes' drive from Albany city centre via Middleton Road or Marine Drive. Park at Surfers Beach Car Park for the closest entry to the off-leash zone. If you are on public transport, TransAlbany bus services run through Seppings with stops along Flinders Parade and nearby streets.

Watch-outs. This is a shared-use natural beach, so keep your dog supervised even when off-leash. You may encounter local wildlife, and other beach users will be moving through the area. A quick recall is essential here.

Off-leash ends the instant you hit the boardwalk or any path. Clip on before you leave the sand, not after.

Nearby with the dogs. Make a day of it. Grab coffee at The Surfing Bean or HazBeanz Finestkind Coffee, plan a longer stay at BIG4 Middleton Beach Holiday Park or Emu Beach Chalets, or book dinner at Rock Salt Restaurant Albany.

When to go. Weekends and summer holidays get busy. Aim for early mornings before 9am or late afternoons for a quieter visit, and check the Albany tide times for the widest stretch of sand at low tide.
