Emu Point Cafe

Emu Point Cafe sits right on the beachfront at Emu Point in Albany, a short stroll from the water at the entrance to Oyster Harbour. It is a relaxed, all-day breakfast and lunch spot with the bay as the backdrop, and dogs are welcome on the shaded verandah, which makes it one of the better appointments in the region for a slow meal with your dog after a beach walk.

The dog setup

Dogs join you on the outdoor verandah and patio seating, on leash and kept close to your table. The indoor dining room is for people only. Staff will often bring out a water bowl if you ask, though on a hot afternoon your own backup bowl is worth having in the car. The verandah is shaded and looks across to the beach, so you can usually keep one eye on the water and one on the menu. Weekend mornings get busy and the wait can stretch, so a weekday visit is the calmer option with a dog at your feet.

Worth knowing

The menu is modern Australian cafe food with a coastal lean: corn fritters, steak sandwiches, bacon and egg rolls and scones, plus fresh local fish and chips that pair naturally with the setting. It opens every day from 7:30am to 3pm, with seasonal variation possible. The picnic area next to the cafe has grass if your dog needs to settle before you sit down.

Getting there and parking

Emu Point is a short drive from Albany's town centre, with parking along the streets near the beach reserve. It fills quickly on sunny weekends and through summer holidays, so arriving early helps. From most of the Emu Point neighbourhood, the beachfront path makes an easy walk in with the dog.

While you're out there

Emu Beach is steps away, and parts of the Emu Beach foreshore are designated off-leash exercise areas under City of Albany rules, though signage varies by segment, so check the boards at the beach access paths.
