Emu Beach Chalets

Emu Beach Chalets sits on Golf Links Road at Emu Point, about 80 metres from the sand, and it is one of the more genuinely set-up pet stays on the WA south coast: a published pet policy, pet bedding and bowls supplied, and an off-leash beach a minute's walk from the door. Self-contained chalets with full kitchens make it a base for longer stays rather than an overnight hop.

Dogs at the chalets

Dogs and cats are allowed inside the chalets, subject to a pet fee, and you must request a pet when booking so a suitable unit is allocated. The rules are spelled out: pets stay off the furniture and out of the bedrooms, are never left unattended, and must be house-trained. Aggressive dogs are not accepted, cats should travel in a carrier, and you bring your own leads and waste bags. Bowls, beds, blankets and towels are provided on request. One limitation worth knowing: the chalets have no fenced yards, so outdoor time means the lead. Management can charge for damage, and you confirm the current fee when booking.

Close by with the dogs

The City of Albany's dog exercise policy designates the beach stretch around Emu Point and Emu Beach as off-leash, with no time restrictions, as long as the dog stays under effective control. That means a proper off-lead beach walk before breakfast, with the on-lead grassed areas and paths marked by council signage. Emu Point Cafe is the local coffee stop, The Squid Shack does fish and chips nearby, and Middleton Beach is a short drive for a different stretch of sand. If you want a second option in the same suburb, Havana Villas also takes dogs at Emu Point.

Max: No fence at the chalets, so clip the lead on at the door and walk the 80 metres to the off-leash stretch.
