Mount Pleasant Wines

Mount Pleasant is one of the Hunter's founding vineyards, established in 1880 at 401 Marrowbone Road, and the rare Pokolbin cellar door that lets dogs come right inside. That indoor welcome makes it a genuine wet-weather option when the open-lawn doors are a washout.

Where the dog goes. Dogs are permitted inside the main cellar door tasting area as well as on the covered patio and outdoor area, so you can taste under cover rain or shine. Keep your dog leashed and settled, and a well-behaved dog is the expectation given the room is shared with other tasters. Water bowls are usually on hand.

What is there. History, and serious wine to match. The wines made in honour of legendary winemaker Maurice O'Shea are the headline, and the Shiraz and Semillon are the varieties to seek out.

Getting there. 401 Marrowbone Road, a short drive into the vineyard district off the main Pokolbin roads. On-site parking is available.

When to go. The indoor access makes this the one to keep in your pocket for a rainy or sweltering day. Weekdays are calmer if your dog prefers a quieter room.
