Blueberry Hill at 999 McDonalds Road is a boutique, family-owned vineyard on the corner of Gillards Road, with Brokenback Range views and a cellar door that lets dogs come inside. That indoor access, warm in winter and air-conditioned in summer, is the practical reason to put it on a hot or wet day's list.

Where the dog goes. Friendly dogs are welcome inside the cellar door and out roaming the grounds and vineyard. Keep yours on a lead at all times on the property. Water bowls are often provided, though carrying your own is wise.

What is there. Highly awarded boutique wines made by Andrew Thomas, spanning Semillon, Chardonnay, Verdelho, Shiraz and Merlot, served with personalised, relaxed service and panoramic vineyard-and-mountain views.

Getting there. Corner of McDonalds Road and Gillards Road, with on-site parking directly in front of the cellar door and easy access from the main accommodation areas.

When to go. The indoor option makes this a good call when it is too hot or wet for open-lawn doors. Weekdays keep the small room calm for a settled tasting.
