Primo Estate is a modern, Italian-inspired cellar door on McMurtrie Road, known for its sparkling reds, Italian varieties and house olive oil, with a sheltered courtyard that takes dogs. The courtyard makes it an easy, comfortable tasting stop with the dog along.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the courtyard area, not inside the tasting room (assistance animals aside). Staff are used to dog owners and will seat you at a comfortable outdoor table. Keep your dog on-lead. Bring your own water bowl, though staff have been happy to provide water.

Known for. The iconic Joseph sparkling red, Italian varieties like prosecco, pinot grigio and sangiovese, excellent estate olive oil, and charcuterie boards to enjoy in the courtyard.

Getting there. The address is 250 McMurtrie Road, McLaren Vale. There is free shaded on-site parking at the cellar door. Open seven days, 11am to 4pm.

Nearby with the dogs. Many neighbouring McMurtrie Road cellar doors are also dog-friendly, the Shiraz Trail is close for an on-lead walk, and Aldinga and Moana beaches are a short drive for a run (check signage for off-leash times).

When to go. Weekday late mornings and afternoons are quietest in the courtyard. The sheltered courtyard gives some protection from wind and sun, but bring water for the dog on hot days.
