Kay Brothers is the oldest McLaren Vale winery still run by its founding family, established in 1890 and set on a hillside on Kays Road with expansive views over the vines toward the coast. The rustic cellar door welcomes dogs across its outdoor areas, making it a memorable, heritage-rich stop with the dog.

The dog setup. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the outdoor deck, the grassy lawns and in the courtyard, with tastings at outdoor tables and the dog beside you. There is open lawn for dogs to stretch out. Keep your dog on-lead within the cellar door courtyard and under control. Bring your own treats and a water bowl.

Known for. Bold, classic McLaren Vale reds, especially the premium Block 6 Shiraz and old-vine grenache, poured in an authentic, family-run heritage setting.

Getting there. The address is 57 Kays Road, McLaren Vale, roughly 45 to 50 minutes from the Adelaide CBD. There is ample on-site parking. Bookings are recommended, especially on weekends.

Nearby with the dogs. Other dog-friendly cellar doors in the McLaren Flat and Vale area are close by, and Sellicks and Moana beaches have off-leash times a short drive away to burn energy after a tasting.

Big lawns, hilltop views and room to stretch out while the humans taste. Bring a ball.

When to go. Weekday afternoons are calmest and the coastal views are best in clear, late-day light. Book ahead for weekends.
