Kay Brothers Winery & Cellar Door

Kay Brothers is the oldest McLaren Vale winery still run by its founding family, established in 1890 and set on a hillside on Kays Road with expansive views over the vines toward the coast. The rustic cellar door welcomes dogs across its outdoor areas, which makes it a memorable, heritage-rich stop with the dog in tow.

The dog setup

Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the outdoor deck, the grassy lawns and in the courtyard, with tastings at outdoor tables and the dog beside you. There is open lawn for dogs to stretch out on while you work through the reds. Keep your dog on-lead within the cellar door courtyard and under control, and bring your own treats and a water bowl.

The vibe

Bold, classic McLaren Vale reds, especially the premium Block 6 Shiraz and old-vine grenache, poured in an authentic family-run setting from the 1890s. Weekday afternoons are calmest, the coastal views are best in clear late-day light, and bookings are recommended on weekends.

Getting there and parking

The address is 57 Kays Road, McLaren Vale, roughly 45 to 50 minutes from the Adelaide CBD, with ample on-site parking. Tastings run from 10am on weekdays and 11am on weekends to 5pm daily.
