Claymore Wines Cellar Door

Claymore Wines is the rock and roll themed cellar door on the Horrocks Highway at Leasingham, about ninety minutes north of Adelaide in the Clare Valley. The wines are named after classic albums and songs, the tasting room pours well-regarded Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, and dogs are welcome on site, which makes it an easy stop to fold into a Clare Valley day out with the dog.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome across the site, generally on-lead. The safest plan is the outdoor areas with your own water bowl, and it is worth confirming at the door whether dogs can join you inside the tasting room, since indoor access at cellar doors can shift with staffing, weather and how busy the day is. Weekday visits make all of this easier: quieter tastings, simpler parking and more room to settle a dog.

Worth knowing

The cellar door runs roughly 11am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 4pm on Sundays. Tastings cover the full range from crisp Clare Riesling through to the bigger reds, and charcuterie-style platters are available if you want to linger. The theme is genuine rather than a gimmick, so expect a relaxed, music-soaked room rather than a formal tasting counter.

Max: confirm the indoor rules before you get comfortable. On-lead outdoor areas are the safe bet if the tasting room turns out to be dogs-outside-only.

Getting there and parking

Claymore is at 4455 Horrocks Highway, Leasingham, on the main run through the valley, with on-site parking directly at the cellar door. The Riesling Trail passes close by and is a good pre or post tasting leg-stretch for the dog, and the wider valley drive between Leasingham, Sevenhill and Clare is short enough to string several stops into one afternoon.
