Kalleske Wines

Kalleske Wines is a family-run, certified organic and biodynamic winery at 6 Murray Street in Greenock, on the western ridge of the Barossa, and dogs are welcome to join a tasting in the outdoor courtyard and under the vines. The Kalleske family has farmed this ground since 1853, and the cellar door pours entirely estate-grown fruit with old-vine shiraz and grenache as the headliners.

Max: the shade under the vines is the whole trick here. On a hot Barossa afternoon the courtyard stays workable while inland cellar doors become ovens, so this is a lunchtime stop rather than a late one.

The tasting format is informative without being stiff, and the staff know the vineyard blocks in detail. Cheese and food pairing platters are available if you want to turn the stop into a longer sit, which suits a settled dog on a shaded patch of courtyard. The cellar door opens 10am to 5pm daily, and bookings are recommended on weekends. The organic and biodynamic certifications are genuine estate credentials rather than marketing labels.

The cellar door is on Murray Street in Greenock's township, about an hour's drive north of Adelaide via Main North Road and the Barossa Valley Way, or around 15 minutes from Nuriootpa. Free on-site and street parking sits directly out front, with accessible parking and entry available.
