Blewitt Springs Wine Company is a boutique cellar door at 477 Blewitt Springs Road, a few minutes from the McLaren Vale town centre, with a relaxed vineyard outlook and small-batch wines. It is one of the quiet corners of the region, away from the busy main-strip cellar doors.

Dogs are welcome, and the outdoor patio is the spot to aim for since it looks straight over the vines. Keep your dog on lead, bring your own waste bags, and expect a water bowl to be out, though a portable one is worth carrying when the cellar door is busy.

Worth knowing

The winery works with organic, sustainable practices on ancient sands and pours small-batch wines, with shiraz and a fortified shiraz among the standouts. It was named one of the top ten best new wineries in the 2021 James Halliday Wine Companion, and the service is personal; staff will talk through the winemaking if you ask.

Hours are limited to Saturdays from midday to 5pm, so it suits a quiet, unhurried tasting rather than a big group outing. Arrive early in the window to have the patio to yourselves.
