Geddes Wines

Geddes Wines is a small, family-run cellar door on Blewitt Springs Road in the heart of McLaren Vale, and it comes with its own resident dog: a Labrador named Neville who tends to be the first to greet you.

Dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area, and given Neville lives on site, staff are used to well-behaved visitors on lead. If you'd like to bring your dog inside the small tasting room, it's worth asking at the door rather than assuming. Water is usually put out for visiting dogs. Tastings run ten dollars a head, redeemable against a purchase.

Known for. Chats with winemaker and owner Tim Geddes, a relaxed and unhurried pace, and the estate's Seldom Inn and Single Vineyard ranges. This is a small operation rather than a big commercial cellar door, and that's the appeal.

Getting there. 283 Blewitt Springs Road, open daily 10am to 5pm (closed Good Friday and Christmas Day). On-site parking, easy access to the door, and no tour buses, so it stays quiet even on weekends.

Nearby with the dogs. Kay Brothers Winery & Cellar Door is another dog-friendly stop a short drive away, and there are quiet country roads around Blewitt Springs for a stretch of the legs before or after tasting.

When to go. Weekday mornings are quietest if you want the tasting room to yourself. Good for dogs who are relaxed around other dogs, since Neville has the run of the place.
